Parenting Support
As a parent, you are one of the most important people in supporting your child with the challenges they are experiencing. Having some guidance in how best to support your child can be helpful if you are finding things overwhelming.
What does Parenting Support involve?
Parenting support will typically involve three sessions - an initial assessment appointment (90 minutes) and two follow-up appointments (50 minutes). This three-session approach is best suited to parents who are experiencing challenges with their parenting in relation to their young child's behaviour. Across the three sessions, I offer parents a space to discuss the challenges that they are experiencing with their child, and provide suggestions for how best to navigate the challenge through changes in parenting.
Within the initial assessment appointment, we will have the opportunity to discuss the challenges you are experiencing in relation to your child's behaviour. We will talk about the specific behaviours that challenge you, including when they occur, how often, and what the interaction between you and your child looks like at these times. At the end of the initial assessment appointment we will talk about a plan of what might be helpful to change in relation to parenting your child through these challenging times. The subsequent two follow-up appointments will be an opportunity for us to talk about how the changes have been going and trouble-shoot any further difficulties.

These sessions are informed by behavioural parent training, which research has shown helps parents to navigate behavioural challenges with their young child. These approaches to parenting are based on research evidence, and include specific skills that can be tailored to your individual needs and approach as a parent. In these sessions, I provide with a compassionate and non-judgmental space for you to explore your parenting while holding the needs of your child in mind.
