Therapy

Psychological Therapy sessions can help provide a way of overcoming emotional or behavioural challenges.

I offer therapy sessions based on approaches that are supported by scientific evidence, and tailored to meet the needs of each young person and family.

What does therapy involve?

Therapy sessions are typically 50minutes long, and are offered to provide support for young people experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties. The focus of therapy will be based on the outcome from your initial assessment, including our shared understanding of what is contributing to the challenges your child is experiencing, as well as the goals that your child and you have for therapy.

Therapy can be offered to your child, to you as a parent, or to both of you. The number of therapy sessions needed can vary significantly. The number of sessions recommended will typically be based on the current research and clinical guidance for challenges similar to those your child is experiencing. The frequency of therapy sessions will be depend on your situation - often this is either weekly or fortnightly. The recommended number and frequency of therapy sessions will be discussed with you at the end of your initial assessment.

The therapy I offer is based on my advanced training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-based therapies, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Each of these therapies have been shown to be effective in improving the wellbeing of young people experiencing mental health challenges, and for supporting parents of children with mental health and behavioural challenges. During therapy, we will regularly review progress towards your child's and your goals.
